Join Ty this weekend next door at First Street Studio for a Contact Improv Jam!
Whether you're new to Contact Improv or have experience, this jam welcomes everyone. Beginners can expect a brief introduction to Contact Improv to help you get started, and experienced jammers can dive right in. This is an inclusive, all-levels jam where you can explore connection with other bodies in space as well as build your somatic textural range. We will focus on building an ensemble minded space. Don't miss this opportunity to dance, connect, and play!
What is contact improvisation?
"Contact improvisation is a form of improvised partner dancing that has been developing internationally since 1972. It involves the exploration of one's body in relationship to others by using the fundamentals of sharing weight, touch, and movement awareness. It has evolved into a broad global community of social dancing around "jams" characterized by their welcoming attitude towards newcomers to dance, as well as seasoned practitioners, and is often found overlapping with ecstatic dance communities."
